The Booksellers Association announced the line-up for Independent Bookshop Week (15-22 June), the annual celebration of independent bookshops across the UK and Ireland, with wonderful events for all. Some include spoken word in support of refugees, book quizzes, garden parties, a dinosaur themed window display, cosy reading night, indie twinning between bookshops and publishers, a mystery bookshop crawl, the BookTok Tour and much more.

New Booksellers Association President announced

Fleur Sinclair, owner of Sevenoaks Bookshop in Kent, has been appointed the new President of the Booksellers Association (BA), the trade body that promotes and supports bookshops across the UK and Ireland.

Fleur took over Sevenoaks Bookshop in 2015, and is the third female owner in a row that the shop has had since inception in 1948. She also sits on the board of Bookshop.org, the online bookstore that supports local, independent bookshops.

Gimme Some Sugar – a new exhibition by SJ Fuerst

American figurative painter SJ Fuerst’s solo exhibition Gimme Some Sugar opened at the prestigious and historical Malta Society of Arts in Valletta on Thursday. The show playfully celebrates candy’s presence in pop culture – with SJ’s bright, humorous, and seductive paintings representing society’s love affair with sugar. The show is pure joy, but not quite as innocent as the candy coating suggests. The exhibition is open until 23 May. Follow @SJFuerst on Instagram for the latest updates. #GimmeSomeSugar
