Publication Day for Breathe by Leila Segal

Today Midas celebrates the publication of Breathe: Stories from Cuba by Leila Segal (Flipped Eye).

A beautifully observed collection of short stories, Breathe takes the reader beyond the artificial glamour of guidebook Cuba to paint a real and uncompromising portrait of modern-day Cuba. Segal captures the joy, discontent, love and everyday dreams that lie beneath the façade of this beautiful and complex country.

Written from the perspective of an outsider, Breathe is remarkable for its insight into everyday life in Cuba, and draws on the time Leila spent living in a rural community in the remote West of the island. The stories in Breathe are inspired by these experiences, but they are fiction, not autobiography.

Tonight Leila will be celebrating at her book launch in Daunt Books (Hampstead).

Leila has recently appeared on BBC Radio Hereford & Worcester and BBC Radio London and has several more media appearances planned over the next few weeks. Leila is still available for interviews, feature writing and events.
