PPC Award Shortlist for Midas PR Wellcome Book Prize 2018 Campaign

Midas PR’s campaign for the Wellcome Book Prize 2018 has been shortlisted for a Publishers’ Publicity Circle (PPC) Award.

2018 marked the second year that Midas PR worked with Wellcome Book Prize, which celebrates exceptional works of literature that illuminate the many ways that health, medicine and illness touch our lives. The 2018 Wellcome Book Prize winner was To Be a Machine by Mark O’Connell (published by Granta).

Our main objective for the 2018 publicity campaign was to make the prize media coverage work harder to engage the core demographic of Wellcome readers, while reaching new audiences and a broader demographic. We secured extensive high-profile media coverage, both nationally and internationally, celebrating the authors and titles from longlist stage to winner. Announcements were met with a raft of news coverage in the likes of the Guardian, Financial Times and New York Times, alongside interviews with BBC Radio 4’s Today Programme, the BBC World Service, the Daily Telegraph, the i, New Statesman, Grazia, New Scientist and The Pool. The team also executed a thorough social media campaign for the prize that reached more than 2.7M on Twitter.

The Wellcome Book Prize 2019 marks the 10th anniversary of this prestigious award, with a longlist of twelve titles will be announced on Tuesday 5 February followed by a shortlist of six titles on Tuesday 19 March. The winner will be announced at an evening reception on Wednesday 1 May at Wellcome Collection in London, chosen by a panel of judges chaired by award-winning author Elif Shafak, joined by Kevin Fong, Viv Groskop, Jon Day and Rick Edwards.

Midas PR are responsible for the Wellcome Book Prize administration, including managing the submission process, as well as event coordination, judging panel liaison, and the media relations.
