Midas PR’s Alice Geary to chair SYP’s first independent UK committee
Alice Geary, Senior Account Executive at Midas Public Relations, has been appointed the Society of Young Publishers (SYP) UK chair for 2017.
The SYP have restructured this year, for the first time forming a UK committee that is independent of the London branch. The new UK team will represent the five regional branches based in London, Oxford, North & Midlands, Edinburgh and Eire.
For the last two years, Alice has been part of the Oxford branch’s committee, first as Speaker Events Coordinator in 2015, then as Co-Chair.
“A real focus for the SYP last year was to raise awareness of the society as a united body working across the five regional branches, and separating the UK Chair role from the London committee is a great opportunity to further strengthen the society’s brand and relations,” Alice commented. “It’s a huge honour to have been made UK Chair 2017 and I am delighted to be working with such an inspiring and dedicated team in the year ahead.”
The London Chair role will be taken over by SYP London’s head of events Louise Newton, audio assistant for Little, Brown Book Group.
Newton said: “I’m very pleased to be spending my final year on the SYP committee as 2017 London Chair. The SYP were incredibly supportive when I started out in the industry and I am eager to continue to offer that same level of support, and to grow and sustain the SYP for future members.”
Established in 1949, the Society of Young Publishers offer a range of benefits to their members and runs events around the year to help assist, inform and encourage anyone trying to break into the publishing industry or progress within it.
