MIDAS PR to promote leading Autumn title from Hornet Books: Guiding Me Home & Away: Dave Thomas The Autobiography

MIDAS PR are thrilled to have been engaged by Hornet Books to promote their leading Autumn/Winter title Guiding Me Home & Away: Dave Thomas The Autobiography which for the first time shares the incredible and inspirational true-life story of the first registered blind England international footballer.

Socks rolled down around his ankles and minus shin pads, Dave Thomas’ electrifying pace and superb crossing ability terrorised defences in the ‘60s, ‘70s & ‘80’s, but this is no ordinary football autobiography. Dave Thomas is now registered as blind, and the final inspiring chapters of his story detail the long but rewarding journey Dave experienced before being paired with Hannah, his trusty guide dog.

A popular, speedy winger, Dave’s autobiography is packed full of stories and anecdotes from his time playing professional football for teams including Everton, Burnley, Queens Park Rangers and England and his involvement with legends such as Dave Sexton, Don Revie, Alf Ramsey and Bill Shankly who all shaped his career in one way or another. The biggest influence on Dave’s remarkable career, though, was his miner grandfather David Reece Thomas, who captained West Auckland to victory in Turin in 1909 in what became a forerunner of the FIFA World Cup we know today.

In 2008 Dave was registered blind after experiencing progressive sight loss as result of glaucoma. In his own words Dave shares his emotions and experiences and, through his journey, we discover his astonishingly positive approach to life as he negotiates everyday tasks the rest of us take for granted.

Now with the help of his Labrador guide dog, Hannah, Dave copes with a catalogue of daily obstacles. All his royalties for this book will be donated to Guide Dogs, a charity for which Dave has already raised over £72,000.

Inspiring, moving and entertaining Guiding Me Home & Away: Dave Thomas The Autobiography is a must-read not only for football fans, but anyone gripped by powerful real-life stories.
