Lesley Pearse Women of Courage Award Winner Announced

The Lesley Pearse Women of Courage Award ceremony, sponsored by Penguin took place yesterday (18th May 2009) in London. Lesley and Penguin are proud to announce the winner is Kerry-Ann Hindley from Glasgow. Picked from a list of both amazing and humbling courageous women’s stories – then chosen from five final shortlisters, Kerry-Ann’s story touched Lesley’s heart.

Kerry-Ann Hindley from Glasgow was nominated for the Lesley Pearse Women of Courage Award by her partner because she has overcome personal tragedies, hardship and a terribly troubled youth to take her experiences and turn them into something positive – helping others. After hitting rock bottom, Kerry-Ann stayed in a women’s homeless hostel and there made a conscious decision to turn her life around and dedicate all her time to helping children who have shared similar experiences to hers. Kerry-Ann now works for the council in local schools teaching children life skills and keeping them on the right path, off the street and out of trouble.

Kerry-Ann received a £1000 winning cheque from Lesley, a luxury cruise to the Canary Islands donated by Fred Olsen and £200 of Penguin books and a specially crafted commemorative award.
