Khalaf Ahmad Al Habtoor: The Autobiography Launched at Guards Polo Club

Khalaf Ahmad Al Habtoor, founder of the Dubai-based Al Habtoor Group, was at Guards Polo Club Windsor yesterday for the launch of his autobiography which was followed by an exhibition polo match between Al Habtoor I and Al Habtoor II with teams made up of Khalaf Al Habtoor’s sons and grandsons. The launch coincided with the final of the annual Al Habtoor Royal Windsor Cup in the presence of HM The Queen who traditionally presents the trophy to the winning team.

The Al Habtoor Group is internationally recognised through its construction, hotels, real-estate, education, automobile distribution and leasing and publishing businesses and is one of the UAE’s most successful and diversified business corporations, employing more than 40,000 people.

The book tells the story of a self-made man who grew up in poverty, sleeping on the floor of a barasti (‘palm frond’) dwelling on the edge of the desert, and who now walks with the Queen and has the ear of Presidents and world leaders.

He is a true citizen of the world, someone who uses his wealth in numerous philanthropic ventures and who – crucially – bridges both the Arab and western cultures and understands each viewpoint. It is this stance that makes his political analysis of difficult issues so compelling and gives his memoirs a contemporary relevance.
