Independent Booksellers Week Bookshop Crawl Winners Announced

The Booksellers Association (the BA) is delighted to announce the two winners for this year’s inaugural Independent Booksellers Week (IBW) Bookshop Crawl.  The competition, new for IBW 2014, saw bloggers, vloggers and booktubers invited to visit as many independent bookshops as possible over the course of a day, and blog or post a video about their experiences.   Over 70 independent bookshops across the country from Southampton to Edinburgh were visited by those taking part in the crawl, which took place on Saturday 5th July, the last day of IBW.  The winners are:

IBW Bookshop Crawl Blog Category – Joanna Murray

Joanna’s marathon bookshop crawl route started in Ross-on-Wye, and encompassed Ledbury, Malveryn, Pershore, Stow-on-the-Wold and Chipping Norton before finishing in Burford.  She visited four counties, spent over four hours driving (in a rental car), visited seven bookshops and bought fourteen books.  Her blog also includes a map of her journey.  Joanna can be found tweeting at @Joanna_M.

IBW Bookshop Crawl Video Category – Marion Walker

Marion’s beautifully edited five minute video chronicled her successful crawl with booktuber Sanne (Books and Quills) – a whirlwind tour of some of London’s best bookshops, from Brick Lane to the new flagship Foyles on Charing Cross Road. The pair spent eight hours crawling and visited seven bookshops.  Marion’s winning vlog is on her channel MarionHoney and her twitter handle is @marionhoney.

Meryl Halls, Head of Membership Services, Booksellers Association, said:  “We were delighted with the response to the competition this year.  We had some fantastic entries and it was really difficult choosing the winners as each and every one showed such creativity and enthusiasm.   There are so many bloggers out there who are passionate about books and bookshops that we wanted to introduce something for IBW specifically for them, and have some fun.”

Both winners take away £50 of National Book Tokens each, as well as the entire adult and children’s IBW Book Award shortlist, in addition to a digital banner designed specifically for their respective YouTube channel and blog.

Booksellers were equipped with IBW Bookshop Crawl stickers to handout to participants, with Dulwich Books providing an extra goodie bag, and Three Counties Bookshop and Sevenoaks Bookshop both welcoming crawlers with tea, coffee and cake.  A list of the bookshops visited is below.  All those who took part in the crawl received a specially designed participant’s banner that works on all social media platforms that can be tailored to any blogger or vlogger requirements.
