Honest John lifts the lid on the UK’s MoT Secrets
An analysis of 24.5 million MoT records obtained by consumer motoring champion, honestjohn.co.uk, has revealed that one in five cars registered in 2008 failed their first MoT, with testers most likely to fail cars from French firms Renault, Citroen and Peugeot.
The research by honestjohn.co.uk involved examining tens of millions of records obtained from the Vehicle Operator and Services Agency (VOSA) through the Government’s OpenData scheme. It is data that VOSA fought to keep secret from car owners for years.
Now honestjohn.co.uk is publishing it as The MoT Files at honestjohn.co.uk/mot – the first time this information has ever been available to the public in such detail.
The news story was revealed as an exclusive on BBC Breakfast, and followed by news items on Radio 4 Today, BBC 5 Live, BBC Radio 1 Newsbeat and made the front page of The Daily Mail Online and The Telegraph among many others.
