Digital Publishing Xmas Fair brings publishers and start-ups together for a Pitch over the Punchbowl
Silicon Roundabout’s growing community of start-ups focused on the publishing industry will celebrate the festive season in style on 11 December with the first Digital Publishing Xmas Fair. Taking place in Shoreditch Village Hall on Hoxton Square from 12-6pm, the Digital Publishing Xmas Fair will foster stronger links and partnerships between publishers and the start-up scene that is fast coalescing around it through product demonstrations, discussion and mince pies.
Companies participating in the Fair on 11 December include crowdfunded publisher Unbound, which will demonstrate the new open crowdfunding channels it unveiled at Futurebook, and Valobox, which made headlines recently for a pioneering ebook gifting deal with Constable and Robinson. Other start-ups appearing are Contentment, Jelly Books, Freed Fiction, Movellas, Padify and Pugpig. The event will be sponsored by Hachette Digital and FEB. Midas PR is also supporting the event.
Entry to the Digital Publishing Xmas Fair is free to anyone who books via Eventbrite and visitors are welcome to drop in for a while or stay for the whole afternoon. In addition to demonstrations and lightning-short talks from start-up founders on how projects were conceived and developed, there will be live music from (name) and the ever-present mulled wine.
Michael Kowalski, CEO of Contentment which is organising the fair said: “This has been a tremendously exciting year for publishing start-ups, many of which have broken through in the past 12 months with deals and partnerships that have the potential to transform the publishing industry. The Digital Publishing Xmas Fair is our way of celebrating a great year while looking to the future. We hope that the conversations that take place between publishers and start-ups at the Fair will help accelerate the industry and make 2014 a golden year for digital publishing.”
