Brighton artist creates two new children’s titles for Maverick Books / Shevon Burrows

Published by Maverick Books this month, Sushi My Sausage Dog and Peggie Sue Can’t Find the Loo! are two quirky new titles from 23 year-old artist Shevon Burrows.

Having studied Illustration at Brighton University, Shevon’s dream came true in 2009, when she was signed to Maverick Books – the new children’s publisher that champions fresh new talent.

Born in Las Vegas to a family of dancers, singers and magicians, Shevon has always had art in her life. Aged 3, her family moved to the UK and Shevon grew up in Hertfordshire, and studied in Brighton.

‘I knew from a very young age that I wanted to be an artist,’ says Shevon. ‘I was always drawing in my spare time or reading picture books. My style is quite quirky and very colourful – it reflects my personality, and hopefully that’s something that will appeal to the readers!’

In April, Shevon will be appearing at Waterstone’s around the UK as part of a ‘Pirate Week’ to promote Peggie Sue Can’t Find the Loo! The events will include children’s writing and craft workshops.

Shevon also teaches dance and has performed at the Edinburgh and Brighton fringe festivals.
