Books & Media / New online guide to media coverage
Books & Media, a new web-based subscription service for anyone who wants to know what the media is saying about books and authors offers a comprehensive and unique resource on books featured across all consumer media. A customisable press and media cuttings office, Books & Media is updated daily and can be accessed at www.booksandmedia.co.uk or received via data feed.
Books & Media covers all books featured in the national Press in Britain and Ireland, whether reviewed, or referenced in general editorial, interviews or the news. It also covers the Times Literary Supplement, London Review of Books, The Spectator, New Statesman and The Economist in the UK. Books with official TV tie-ins plus authors featured, interviewed or mentioned on national TV and radio including chat shows and arts and books programmes are covered on Books & Media. Social networking sites and blogs are also referenced. Books adapted into major and independent movies are flagged up on the site. The TV and radio service lists the channel and broadcast time for each programme that features or is linked to books, including specialist programmes such as cookery and gardening, alongside soaps, comedy and drama. Of particularly interest is the Books & Media Sunday night coverage service, where subscribers will be able to find out what was reviewed and who was interviewed during the weekend, with star ratings on reviews.
For the first two months from launch at the London Book Fair, Books & Media will be a free service for those interested in sampling the product. However, they will have to register before usage.
Books & Media, which will subsequently be available for a subscription fee based on usage, forms part of a broad range of services to the book industry offered by BDS, which includes information-rich data and streaming content provision, web-services and consultancy delivered through its brands West10 and ehaus, the acknowledged leader in web services to the book trade and technical developers of Books & Media.
Books & Media Managing Editor, Harry Doherty, formerly Media Editor with Nielsen Book, and an acknowledged expert on books in the media, is excited by this new BDS-backed service:
‘We have created something that the book industry in all its forms has long needed: a detailed and authoritative overview of what people are saying about books, available at the click of a mouse. If it isn’t on Books & Media then no-one’s talking about it.’
