Wellcome Book Prize x Book Slam: 10th Anniversary Special
Wellcome Book Prize is delighted to be joining Book Slam, London’s leading literary shindig, for an evening of words and music to celebrate the 10th anniversary of this prestigious award.
On the bill are bestselling author of The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night-Time, The Pier Falls and, forthcoming, The Porpoise, Mark Haddon; novelist, essayist, activist and 2019’s chair of judges, Elif Shafak; and psychotherapist, author of The Book You Wish Your Parents Had Read and agony aunt, Philippa Perry.
Hosting is the wickedly funny Salena Godden, joined by comedian and YouTube sensation Damien Slash who has a killer one-man mixtape on Radio 4, plus a short set from Mercury Prize-nominated singer and collector of folk songs, Sam Lee.
Tickets include a free drink and limited-edition tote bag designed by acclaimed visual artist David Shrigley to mark the 10th anniversary of the Wellcome Book Prize, and created in support of the Books Are My Bag campaign to celebrate bookshops.
The Wellcome Book Prize celebrates exceptional works of literature that illuminate the many ways that health, medicine and illness touch our lives. Authors on the 2019 longlist include Tara Westover (Educated), Matthew Sperling (Astroturf) and Ottessa Moshfegh (My Year of Rest and Relaxation). The shortlist for the prize will be announced on Tuesday 19 March, with the winner revealed at an evening ceremony on Wednesday 1 May at Wellcome Collection.
