Campaign of the Week: The British Composer Awards
The British Composer Awards are an annual celebration promoting the art of composition and showcasing the creative talent of contemporary composers and sound artists in the UK. Midas PR was appointed to manage the PR for the Awards for the third consecutive year in 2017, further establishing the event as a key annual fixture in the music calendar. Our objectives were to raise the profile and credibility of the awards, showcase the diversity of composers and the variety of creative work that exists within the contemporary classical music scene, and to generate a positive narrative around music composition as an art form.
Midas delivered a national, regional and specialist PR campaign across print, broadcast and online titles in the UK, engaging new audiences in the diversity of contemporary composition. National press coverage highlights included BBC News interview both in print and on video with innovative young composer Shiva Feshareki, Twitter coverage of the shortlist announcement on BBC Arts and a BBC Radio 3, In Tune interview with select winners and shortlisted composers.
National coverage in Scotland, Wales and Ireland was a particular highlight of the campaign with interviews on STV Live at Five, London Live, RTE Radio Arena, BBC Radio Wales, BBC Radio Scotland, BBC Radio Ulster, and interviews with Irish News, Metro Scotland and The Herald. Music press coverage included news pieces across the shortlist and winners in Classical Music Magazine, BBC Music Magazine Online, Music Week, Gramophone, Classical Source, Choir & Organ magazine, 4 Bars Rest and beyond.
Securing a mix of news stories, interviews, and features to bring the stories of the composers and their works to life, Midas achieved over 40 pieces of coverage in total, with a year on year increase in coverage of 13% and a total reach of 63.6 million.
