Making the Headlines: Independent Bookshop Week

Midas PR worked with the Bookseller’s Association (The BA) on the campaign behind the 10th annual Independent Bookshop Week (IBW) which took place from 18th to 25th June. IBW highlights the valued place independent booksellers have on the high street and the important part they play in their communities. Almost 400 independent bookshops in the UK and Ireland took part this year, with a whole range of events and activities as well as exclusive publisher initiatives.

Midas focused on nationwide events, including the Shore to Shore poets tour with Carol Ann Duffy, as well as those occurring in individual bookshops, to secure national and regional events coverage and put participating authors and independent booksellers forward for interviews about IBW with newspapers and broadcast.

The campaign targeted national and regional print, broadcast and online media. Over 60 pieces of coverage ran with key pieces of print coverage appearing in The Bookseller, The Guardian, I newspaper, Daily Mail, Sunday Express Magazine, The Sunday Herald, The Big Issue, The Yorkshire Post and The Argus. Interviews with authors and booksellers ran on a wide range of broadcast outlets including BBC Radio 4: World Tonight, BBC Radio Scotland, BBC Radio Cornwall, BBC Radio Wiltshire and Siren FM, and online features ran on The Pool, Maximum Pop, The Skinny, Den of Geek among others.
