The Judging panel for the Paul Foot Award for Campaigning Journalism 2011 has decided on the following shortlist, in alphabetical order:

 

  • Jon Austin Basildon Echo
  • Jonathan Calvert and Claire Newell, Sunday Times
  • Nick Davies The Guardian
  • Katharine Quarmby, Guardian, Times, Mail On Sunday, Prospect Magazine, Disability Hate Crime Network, Big Issue, Scotsman, Sunday Times, Mencap Viewpoint Magazine, Disabled Go, Huffington Post, Telegraph  
  • David Rose, Mail On Sunday
  • Zoe Smeaton Chemist and Druggist Magazine, UBM Medica
  • Jerome Taylor The Independent
  • Mark Townsend The Observer

Private Eye magazine and The Guardian newspaper set up the award in memory of Paul Foot, the journalist and great campaigner who died in 2004. The prize of ₤5000 will be presented on Tuesday 28th February at BAFTA in London, with each of the runners up receiving ₤1000.
