Success of the Sharjah International Book Fair
25th October 2010
Celebrating Knowledge Without Borders at the Sharjah International Book Fair 2010.
The 29th Sharjah International Book Fair (SIBF), ran from 26th October - 6th November 2010, and is the world's leading publishing marketplace for both trade and consumer audiences.
Here are some key facts:
Taking place over 10 days, the fair showcases more than 750 publishers from nearly 42 nations, averages more than 400,000 visitors and trades approximately U.S $ 28 million.
Following 29 years of continued success, SIBF re-branded in 2009 to promote the theme 'the love of the written word' to regional and international audiences. The new theme and associated branding signifies a more focused purpose which will extend beyond the 10-day event itself.
Mr Ahmed Al Amri is the Director of the Sharjah International Book Fair.
The Fair will be inaugurated by His Highness Sheikh Dr. Sultan Al Qassimi at the Expo Centre, Sharjah on Tuesday 26th October at 10:00.
SIBF is an essential hub in the UAE for book sales through engagement with consumers and publishers, and presents many opportunities for Arabic writers to be translated around the world and vice versa.
While authors have attended each year in the fair's 29 year history, there will be even greater emphasis this year on authors drawn from across the world - from historians to cookery writers, from novelists to children's illustrators.
SIBF is supported by the Department of Culture & Information of Sharjah Government and His Highness Sheikh Dr. Sultan Al Qassimi, the UAE Supreme Council Member and Ruler of Sharjah. The fair reflects his vision of 'reawakening the pursuit of knowledge' in Sharjah and the U.A.E.
