On Wednesday 30th September, Laurence King Publishing will team up with Foyles and The Bookseller’s Charlotte Eyre to celebrate the launch of LK’s brand-new children’s list – featuring the bestselling illustrators behind some of autumn’s most eagerly anticipated illustrated titles, Marion Deuchars, Andrew Rae, Jason Ford, Hiro Kamigaki and IC4DESIGN.
Delve into the visually sumptuous world of one of the UK’s leading arts and design publishers as they showcase the work of today’s most exciting children’s illustrators. Discover why children’s illustration is a different ball game to illustrating for adults, find out what children really think of intricate illustrated works, and learn from the experts themselves how to get to where they are today. Chaired by Charlotte Eyre, Children’s Editor at The Bookseller, this is a rare opportunity to hear some of the world’s leading children’s illustrators discuss their work.
About the Speakers
Author of the best-selling Let’s Make Some Great Art series, Marion Deuchars is a Scottish born, award winning illustrator with a globally recognisable style. Her influential hand-lettering and illustration work has been used on advertising campaigns from Samsung and HP to posters for Formula 1 and stamps for The Royal Mail. Her books have won six international awards for design and illustration. She is a member of the Alliance Graphique Internationale and one of six designers to represent the UK at Helsinki’s World Design Capital celebrations.
Andrew Rae is the fantastically talented illustrator being the bestselling This is.. Art Series penned by art historian, Catherine Ingram. A member of the innovative illustration collective Peepshow, Andrew studied at Brighton University and has worked for many clients worldwide in advertising, print, publishing and animation. He currently lives and works in London.
IC4DESIGN are a collective of illustrators based in Hiroshima, Japan, and the illustrators behind Pierre the Maze Detective. Founded by Hirofumi Kamigaki, they were elected one of the 200 Best Illustrators Worldwide 09/10, and were one of American Illustration’s and the Society of Illustrators’ selected illustrators. Their clients include: Amtrak, The New York Times Magazine, Ogilvy Italy, Adobe Systems, Newsweek and Toyota.
Jason Ford is the illustrator and comic book aficionado behind The Super Book for Superheroes. Jason has worked as a freelance illustrator since graduating from the Royal College of Art in 1989. A diet of Tintin and Marvel comics as a child, and a continuing love of French and Belgian bandes dessinées have contributed to his approach to image making. His work has been commissioned by clients including Royal Mail, the New York Times, American Airlines, Orange, Penguin Books, Random House and the Guardian.
