Was Jesus Ginger? The Churches Conservation Trust releases an image of Jesus as a redhead

An image of a red haired Jesus Christ in a 19th century stained glass window, thought to be the only such depiction in the country, has been released by The Churches Conservation Trust to coincide with National Ginger Awareness Day on 22 February 2015.

The east window of Holy Trinity Church in Sunderland is believed to be the only depiction of Jesus Christ with red hair in the UK, designed in Venetian stained glass in 1857 by one of England’s most prolific stained glass artists, William Wailes, and made at James Hartley’s glassworks in Sunderland.

Only 4 per cent of the world’s population have red hair, and most of the world’s redheads live in the UK, Ireland and Australia.
