Dance your way through summer with the Royal Academy of Dance

Learn the steps to world famous musicals and make classic children’s tales come to life, with a summer of dance, brought to children and families by the Royal Academy of Dance (RAD).

From The Gruffalo dance workshops for children to learning the dance routines from West End musicals Wicked and Charlie and The Chocolate Factory, children and families of all abilities, are invited to take part in dance classes across July and August with the RAD.

Workshops include classical ballet, summer schools and pop-up taster classes for everyone who wants to get involved in the world of dance. For the first time the RAD will host sessions where dancers can learn the routines for popular musicals.

  • Learn to be a Wicked dancer

In a first-of-its-kind RAD workshop dancers aged 11-16 and above will have the chance to learn routines from the Tony Award and Laurence Olivier Award-winning musical in a two-day workshop that includes tickets to the show itself. Ideal for dancers from beginner level and above, the immersive workshop takes place from Monday 15th to Tuesday 16th August at the Royal Academy of Dance in Battersea and will include tickets to Wicked, lunch both days and a pre-theatre dinner.   • Move with Charlie and the Chocolate Factory

Bringing Roald Dahl’s classic tale to life in the 100th year since his birth, young dancers aged 8-12 years and above will be immersed in the musical theatre workshop for the Sam Mendez-directed multi award-winning Charlie and the Chocolate Factory musical. The workshop will run from Friday 19th – Saturday 20th August at the Royal Academy of Dance in Battersea, and will include tickets to Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, a pre-theatre dinner and lunches both days.   • Bring The Gruffalo to life

Inviting children aged 5-9 years to experience the magic of this much-loved tale, the RAD has partnered with Macmillan Publishers, publisher of The Gruffalo, to create an enchanting workshop spanning dance, music, acting, make-up and storytelling. Hosted at the Royal Academy of Dance, Battersea, on Tuesday 26th July, a workshop for children aged 5-6 years will run from 2pm – 3:45pm (priced at £18.50) and from 4pm – 6:15pm for children aged 7-9 years (£24).
