Cybersecurity at the Speed of Business

News for release, London, 3 May 2017: Europe’s no.1 information security event, Infosecurity Europe, is delighted to announce Dame Stella Rimington, former Director General of MI5, and Jeremy Paxman, journalist and broadcaster, will deliver opening keynote presentations at this year’s event, which takes place at Olympia, London, 6-8 June.

Dame Stella Rimington will draw upon her experience as MI5’s first female Director General, a position she held until 1996.    In a session titled ‘Open Secret’, Dame Stella will discuss her fascinating career in the security service and her work in counter-subversion, counter-espionage and counter-terrorism, to provide a unique perspective on the evolution of security in the UK and around the world.

Dame Stella Rimington said: “This fast-moving industry faces new challenges every day to keep pace with today’s cybercriminal. I am delighted to be presenting Infosecurity Europe’s Opening Keynote, and sharing my experience of working in all the main fields of the Service with the information security professionals attending Infosecurity Europe next month.”

At a time when there are stories abound in the media about fake news, the hacking of democratic elections, government surveillance and the leaking of personal information when businesses are breached, Jeremy Paxman’s presentation, ‘Governments, Businesses & Other Scoundrels: Why Trust Anyone?’ will draw on his expertise in current affairs, politics and history – and share his perspective on the notion of trust in the modern world.

Victoria Windsor, Content Manager, Infosecurity Europe, said: “In her role as Director General of MI5, Dame Stella Rimington was a trailblazer, not only in being the first woman to hold the role, but also in instituting a policy of greater public openness.  I am very much looking forward to hearing her discuss some of the challenges she faced in her career.   Jeremy Paxman is one of the UK’s most experienced journalists and his presentation will provide a unique insight on who, if anyone, can be trusted in today’s world.   We are very excited to be welcoming both speakers to Infosecurity Europe this year, as they present very different perspectives on some of the key challenges facing the industry.”

Infosecurity Europe’s theme for this year is Cybersecurity at the Speed of Business, set against a backdrop of global economic and political uncertainty.   The Keynote Stage programme will analyse the challenge of developing an agile security strategy that can keep pace with business transformation and the evolving threat landscape, providing strategic and tactical advice on how to address these challenges.

The industry’s leading thought-leaders, practitioners, policy-makers and analysts will address key themes including managing the human risk, building an agile security team, securing critical information assets and achieving compliance, disruptive technologies and building a cyber-resilient enterprise.
