Chiswick Book Festival Success / Crowds flock to Terry Pratchett, Prue Leith and host of literary stars

Following the sell-out success of last year’s first Chiswick Book Festival, the 2010 Chiswick Book Festival was an equal triumph, taking place from Friday 17th to Sunday 19th September.

Top names included Terry Pratchett, Andrew Motion, Val McDermid, Adele Parks, Sadie Jones, Prue Leith, Michael Wood, Robert McCrum, Allison Pearson and Claire Tomalin, and crowds queued round the block to buy tickets.

‘We were delighted by the response over the weekend,’ says Torin Douglas, the Festival Director. ‘Chiswick is home to numerous authors and publishers and has a strong literary heritage. It’s great that it is now re-establishing itself as a place where people who love books can celebrate the best in literature – while helping support reading and literacy.’

Festival events included something for everyone, from a morning of children’s events to a crime fiction tea and women’s fiction authors. Local authors were celebrated and enthusiasts had the opportunity to buy signed copies of the latest books and meet the authors.

The Chiswick Book Festival is a non-profit-making, community event. The 2009 Festival raised over £6,195 for the three chosen charities, all of which support reading, literacy and the arts.
